What is Phone Pals

Over the past few months Brain Tumour UK has been working on Phone Pals, a service to help people affected by brain tumours, either individually or family members, or perhaps a close friend.

The Phone Pals scheme invites people to take part in a telephone meeting through a linking service provided by the Community Network charity. Members of each Phone Pals group are given a date and time when their phones will ring and they will be linked into the conversation.

They can then talk to each other as though they were in the same room. Call time will last for approximately one hour and is completely free of charge. Each group will have a host. Initially, this will be a member of Brain Tumour UK.

No Cost

Following the success of our Christmas appeal, Brain Tumour UK is able to fund the cost of the service and the telephone charges.

Who is it for?

We aim to start off with four different Phone Pals groups: one for carers of adults, one for carers of children, one for those who have been bereaved, and one or more for brain tumour sufferers. At the outset, these starter groups will consist of four or five participants. We anticipate that the number of groups in each category will increase and we look forward to many more taking part. We hope that people will be able to offer support to each other, share their experiences, make new friends and improve their quality of life.

Host Training

As people become more involved and more confident, we plan to offer 'host training', so that participants can host their own telephone groups. In this way the Phone Pals service could grow and grow!

This is a novel and exciting development, and we are confident it will give opportunities for people to express their needs and gain mutual support.
