Kate Newman and her friends have raised more than £1,000 for Brain Tumour UK with an innovative cross-London treasure hunt.
Race your Brain 2010 was organised by Kate Newman, after a good friend was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour. Kate wanted to do something to help and developed a fundraising adventure, in which teams of five people deciphered cryptic clues to move from one location to the next throughout central London.
At each location, the team chose a mental or physical challenge from the marshal. Once completed, the next location clue was released.
Challenges were designed to draw attention to the teams, raising awareness of both brain tumours and Brain Tumour UK. Some involved members of the public, who were tasked with learning and reciting brain tumour facts.
Kate plans to develop Race your Brain for 2011, and hopes to expand the pilot from 31 participants to several hundred.
