Our RelayGB runners have already run an incredible 650 miles since leaving Wandsworth Park on Friday and are currently between Worcester and Wolverhampton.
RelayGB is a new charity fundraising event that will see hundreds of runners covering 2,600 miles around Britain in over 100 non-stop marathons to break the world record for distance relay running, while raising £500,000 in aid of Brain Tumour UK.
More than 100 runners have taken part on the route so far, including Marilyn Rankin (pictured with John Stanford), good friend of our Chief Executive, Jenny Baker, and mother of the actor Chris Rankin, who played Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films.
Marilyn ran the Dorchester to Lyme Regis leg in the early hours of Sunday morning and Jenny Baker was there to support her.
RelayGB organiser, John Stanford, said: 'What can I say about the guys running over the Brecons last night? The Aberdare Valley Amateur Athletic Club made sure we kept the baton going through absolutely atrocious conditions.'
'The support crew were magnificent keeping us on course and safe - Martin getting out of the van out to run alongside a struggling runner was real teamwork. This event is all about a team of runners coming together across the country and last night was a stoic effort from runners, supporters and support crew alike.'
'I also want to say a huge well done to the the ladies from Cardiff Uni dance society - brilliant effort in the rain, continued John. “And to Dai Woodsford for his storming run up the hills out of Cardiff.'
'We had some great media coverage of the start on Friday. Starting runner John Adams and myself were interviewed on BBC Radio London, the Leighton Buzzard Observer ran a story about Chris Murdoch and his team who ran the first leg, and Eagle FM radio in Guildford interviewed runner Jon Lawrence about his marathon leg in the Eastbourne area.'
There’s still time to make a JustGiving donation to support John and the runners here or you can donate £10 on your phone by texting BTUK12 £10 to 70070.
Even at this late stage, there's still an opportunity to be an official part of the run itself, particularly if you live in Scotland, by visiting the RelayGB website.
RelayGB, which is supported by adidas, is continuing until 21 May 2012. Around 400 runners are taking part in the event all around the UK, including legendary runner and medal winner Liz McColgan, London Marathon winner Mike Gratton and former women’s rugby international and brain tumour survivor, Vicky Galbraith.
