We have some exciting news – on 1 April 2012 The Joseph Foote Trust joined forces with us to create a new, larger Brain Tumour UK.
Brain Tumour UK is the UK-wide caring charity committed to fighting brain tumours and runs more support groups than any other brain tumour charity.
Despite 40 people being diagnosed every day in the UK with a primary brain tumour, only 2% of all cancer research funding in the UK goes to brain tumour research. And brain tumours now kill more children in the UK than leukaemia.
The Joseph Foote Trust was set up following the diagnosis of Andy's son Joe with a brain tumour in 2000. Joe sadly died in 2007 at the age of 9.
The charity works mainly in the Midlands and have been hugely successful in raising and investing vital funds for ground-breaking brain tumour research at Nottingham University.
Jenny Baker, our Chief Executive, said: “Joining our two brain tumour charities together will combine our respective strengths in fundraising and patient support programmes, and intensify our commitment to funding research to expedite better diagnosis and treatments.
“By consolidating our resources and experience, we will be able to make significant cost savings, while making a greater impact on even more people affected by brain tumours.”
We will also have a stronger voice to speak to both the Government and the public. We believe that the the new organisation will be more than simply the sum of its parts, and this promises a very exciting future for us.
Over the coming months we will create a new strategic plan with goals to grow our fundraising, research investment, support and campaigning and we will keep you updated on our progress.
In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact us via enquiries@braintumouruk.org.uk.
