Why not become a corporate ambassador like Jane and Roderick Marsden?

Roderick Marsden became involved with us when his son Marcus developed a brain tumour over ten years ago and had a reoccurrence in 2006. Realising there was a lack of awareness and funding for brain tumours, Roderick, and his wife Jane, decided to help. In 2007, their company, Travail Employment Group, made a generous donation of £12,500 and a laptop to Brain Tumour UK. In February 2008 they seconded a member of their staff to work on public relations for Brain Tumour UK for a year, and they also set up a new fundraising support group in Shrewsbury.

IMC Medical Communication announces new pro bono alliance with Brain Tumour UK
18 March 2009

London-based healthcare communications consultancy, IMC Medical Communication, is delighted to start working with Brain Tumour UK on corporate and medical communications projects on a pro bono basis during 2009. Brain Tumour UK, founded in 1997 provides practical and emotional support to brain tumour patients and their families. Key objectives for the charity during 2009 include enhancing the charity’s support for patients and carers, raising awareness about brain tumours throughout the UK and funding research to beat the disease.

The high profile diagnoses of Teddy Kennedy and Seve Ballesteros with brain tumours have brought the disease to the public’s attention. But Brain Tumour UK believes that the impact of the disease is grossly understated. During Brain Tumour Awareness Month in March, Brain Tumour UK revealed that around 8,100 primary brain tumours patients are being left off the official records for brain tumour incidence every year. And secondary brain tumours, triggered by other cancers, are not recorded at all but probably affect at least 32,000 people a year.

IMC Medical Communication is a boutique and independent medical communications consultancy located in London. Jenny Baker, Chief Executive of Brain Tumour UK comments: ‘This marks the start of an exciting era for Brain Tumour UK. We have a number of communication priorities for 2009 and the generous support offered by IMC will make these priorities more achievable whilst ensuring that we provide the best level of service to patients and families whose lives are affected by this dreadful disease.’ David Sawyer, Client Services Director at IMC adds: ‘We are very excited to be working with Jenny and the team at Brain Tumour UK and are looking forward to helping the charity to increase its information resources aimed at healthcare professionals as well as patients and families.’

Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon Events 2008

Brain Tumour UK has been chosen as the beneficiary charity of the Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon Events 2008 through an application from its Shrewsbury based self-help group. We are now looking for entrants to raise sponsorship by taking part in an event of their choice from a marathon, a half - marathon (including wheelchairs) a half - marathon relay challenge or a 15k cycle event and a children’s mini marathon. The events are aimed at all ages and abilities and are about taking part, keeping active, raising funds and, of course, having a fun and memorable day! You can walk it, jog it, run it, go round in your wheelchair, even do it in fancy dress if you feel like it – the main thing is that you take part! If you would like to be involved without entering an event you could be a volunteer marshal as we’ll need lots of help on the day!

For more information, to ask for sponsorship forms or to be a marshal contact Claire Miller on 0845 219 8107 or email Claire.miller@braintumouruk.org.uk
