Brain Tumour UK's campaign aims to ensure that all brain tumours are recorded in official statistics in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Brain Tumour UK's research report – Register my tumour, recognise me – found that up to half of all brain tumours in the UK are missing from official health registries. If you are are missing from the registries, it will be hard for healthcare providers to plan and invest in your treatment and care.
You can read the regional press releases behind our report here. And you can see some of the coverage the report received here.
Brain Tumour UK believes that recording all brain tumours, including benign and low grade tumours, is an important first step towards improving care for anyone who is affected.
Launched in March 2009 during Brain Tumour Awareness Month, the campaign has already seen a major success. In July 2009, the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) for England agreed to record all brain tumours.
Details of what information should be recorded are now being agreed and Brain Tumour UK is watching carefully to ensure that the data collection begins.
Meanwhile, we are measuring progress for anyone affected by a brain tumour in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and will be extending our campaign in 2011.
