Charity Overview
Brain Tumour UK is led by a strong and balanced Board of Trustees and managed by a full time director, supported by a fulltime Information and Support Services Manager, fulltime Fundraiser and part-time Admin Manager and over 50 active volunteers and 2000 "friends" of the charity.
A lot has been achieved since the charity's formation in 1997.
Brain Tumour UK has:
- A Scientific & Medical Advisory Board of leading UK specialists, shared with the Samantha Dickson Research Trust and Charlie's Challenge.
- Funded 2 significant research projects to date and this year the charity commits a further £250.000 to 4 new research projects . Brain Tumour UK has joined an alliance with 4 other brain tumour charities, which has created the biggest initiative ever seen, in the UK , of laboratory based brain tumour research. Through collective funding, 10 new research projects will be sponsored at the cost of 1.5 million.
- Hosted 5 successful 2 day residential Educational Conferences
Brain Tumour UK also:
- Handles more than 500 requests for information and support each year.
- Provides backup to support groups for patients and carers.
- Coordinates a nationwide telephone support group service
- Promotes partnership initiatives with other brain tumour charities and groups, convening and financing several meetings to explore how we could work more closely together to achieve shared objectives. This initiative is ongoing.
- Offers a range of booklets and leaflets providing information on coping with the disease, types of tumour and treatments.
- Produces a quarterly magazine, Target, containing topical articles, research news, human interest stories, details of fundraising achievements and upcoming events.
- Runs a web site that provides an invaluable resource for those seeking information about the disease, access to support and for those wishing to support the charity.
